JAMMU, Dec 10: Jugal Kishore Sharma, BJP Member of Parliament from Jammu -Poonch Lok Sabha Constituency today demanded special package for compensation to paddy growing farmers whose crop was destroyed due to rain & hailstorm in Jammu -Poonch Parliamentary Constituency recently.

Jugal Kishore Sharma, while raising the issue in Lok Sabha said that most part his Parliamentary constituency situated along the border, is agricultural land used for growing good quality Basmati rice. He said that the quality of Basmati rice cultivated in Jammu region along the border area from Jammu, Bishnah, R.S Pura, Kathua, Samba, Akhnoor, Nowshera and upto Rajouri & Poonch is of supreme quality and famous all over the India for its sweet smell and nutritiously healthy.
Not only in India but it is also exported in parts of the world. But in the recent season when Basmati rice was to be harvested the farmers have to face unfavorable climatic conditions of rain and hailstorm and crop got damaged which had adversely affected the farming community in the region. Their livelihoods was spoiled due to untimely rain and hailstorm, he added.
Member of Parliament demanded that concerned Minister should announce special package for Basmati growing farmers so that their unfortunate loss will be compensated and they can again be able to grow and cultivate their crop.
