Judicial Academy organises training prog for advocates

JAMMU, Feb 28: In order to encourage and motivate young lawyers at grass root level to stay and continue in legal profession and to improve their skills, knowledge and understanding of law, Jammu and Kashmir State Judicial Academy under the guidance and patronage of Chief Patron of State Judicial Academy, Justice N. Paul Vasanthakumar, Chief Justice, High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Committee of Judges, State Judicial Academy (Justice Muzaffar Hussain Attar, Chairman and Justice Hasnain Masoodi, Member) today organized one day training programme for young Advocates on the topics “Practical application of Basic provisions of the Code of Civil Procedure” and “Practical application of Basic provisions of the Code of Criminal Procedure”.
A.V. Gupta and Sunil Sethi, Senior Advocates were the resource persons who addressed the participants on Civil Procedure and Criminal Procedure respectively.
The programme was conducted by Pawan Dev Kotwal, Director, State Judicial Academy, who in his introductory remarks deliberated on the need for such training programmes for the young Advocates and said that platform provided by the Judicial Academy is an opportunity for the young lawyers to benefit themselves in updating the knowledge of law and clearing their doubts by interaction with resource persons.
In his address, A.V. Gupta, Advocate on “Practical application of Basic provisions of the Code of Civil Procedure” enlightened the participants regarding ways and means which they can adopt while dealing with civil cases. He explained the participants in detail from the stage of filing of civil cases to delivery of judgment, the principles of law and how basic legal mechanisms work.
Sunil Sethi, dealt the topic “Practical application of Basic provisions of the Code of Criminal Procedure” in a scholarly manner. He told the participants some guidelines for trial of criminal cases. He advised the participants that before handling the criminal cases and before starting the trial of criminal cases, they should endeavour to make strategy, always study the case carefully and try to appreciate the case independently.
The participating officials freely interacted with the resource persons and sought clarification on several aspects of civil and criminal matters.
Yahaya Firdousa Ahanger, Sub-Judge (Leave Reserve), Pankaj Kumar Gupta, Deputy Registrar, State Judicial Academy, Jagdish Raj, Faculty Member and staff of the Academy were among others who attended the programme.
