JAMMU, June 27: Jammu University Vice-Chancellor , Professor Umesh Rai today released a book titled “Covid-19 & Economic Crisis- Challenges, Opportunities & Recovery”, authored by Dr Vivek Sharma, Sr Assistant Professor in the Department of Lifelong Learning /Rural Development and Dada Ab Rouf Bhat, Research Scholar, Department of Commerce.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor lauded efforts of the authors for coming out with a significant book aimed at highlighting the impact of Covid-19 on the different sectors of the Indian economy and suggesting recovery measures to overcome challenges and ensuring its speedy revival.
Giving a brief reference of the book, Dr Vivek Sharma shared the rationale behind conceiving the present book by highlighting that the adversity can also be a great opportunity which makes us optimistic, abundant, and persistent to see a new outlook towards the Covid-19 challenge as this book puts forth plentiful and significant outcomes which would have positive implications for the Indian economy.
“Indian economy confronts several economic challenges including volatility and precipitous fall in financial markets and commodity prices, and a financing gap due to shrinking fiscal revenues and Covid-19 expenditure. Liquidity crunch, disruptions in international trade, depletion of foreign exchange reserves, devaluation of currencies and fall in export revenues due to export controls and contraction in global markets and economic engines are also causes of great concern. Thus, the present book includes suggestions as a learning curve which can be used by different stakeholders to improve and revive the economic situation of the country,” Dr Sharma explained.
Prof Rajni Dhingra, Dean Research Studies, Prof Versha Mehta, Dean Business Studies, Professor Gurjeet Kaur, Head, Department of Commerce and Dr Sumita Sharma, Deputy Registrar, Academics and Academic Affairs, also attended the book release function.
