JU VC launches 1st dental journal

JAMMU, Jan 18:  Prof MPS Ishar, Vice-Chancellor University of Jammu today launched “The Journal of Dental Herald”, the first dental journal from Jammu in a well attended function organised by Jammu branch of Indian Dental Association (IDA).
He was accompanied by Lida Singh, Prof. Manoj Kumar Dhar, Registrar University of Jammu, JK Sharma, Special Secretary to VC and Guneet Sudan, incharge Information Technology JU.
Dr.BS Pathania, Director Health Services Jammu was guest of honour and he launched the website of Indian Dental Association, Jammu Branch.
Prof.Ishar at the launch said that he was happy that the first journal in dentistry from J&K has been launched. He congratulated Dr.Bhanu Kotwal, editor of the journal. He also stressed for research in Medical and Dental Sciences. He said that very limited research has been going on in J&K in medical field. Prof. Ishar said that health is not luxury but its the basic right of every citizen and doctors must work to achieve it.
Dr.Pathania, said that the health services must reach the poor and underprivileged. He said dentistry is not only about treating the teeth but is much more than that and the field of operation of a dental surgeon is very wide. Dr.Gautam Mengi, Director, Institute of Dental Sciences, Jammu stressed that 80 percent of India’s population is in rural area and health professional must go to these areas to serve this population. Dr.Ritesh Gupta, President of IDA presented memento to the Vice-Chancellor JU. Dr.Gautam Sharma, Dental Surgeon JU and general secretary of IDA presented memento to Dr. Pathania. Dr Rajiv Mengi presented vote of thanks.
