JAMMU, Oct 29: The Jammu University Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe Employees Association has appealed the Chancellor N N Vohra to intervene and get their issues resolved.
The appeal was made during a meeting of the Association, held here today.
Members said that since 2008, the University Grants Commission has, several times, given instructions to the University authorities to provide membership to SCs & STs in the competent bodies like University Council, Syndicate, Academic Council, Establishment Committee, etc but no step has ever been taken by them to comply with the instructions. In 2002 a Grievances Redressed Cell was constituted by the University to listen to the grievances of the employees but in twelve years, it could hold only one meeting and the matters of grievances filed in it by JU SC/STs for redressal, remained unheard, the meet said and also highlighted some other issues, such as accommodation for office to their Association and promotion benefits to SC/ST employees as per the roster.
