JAMMU, May 21: In an apparent bid to target  some qualified aspirants, the Jammu University has issued a controversial order  restricting the admission of candidates with criminal background in all its departments and the educational institutions affiliated to it.
“A candidate having criminal background shall not be considered for admission to any course or programme in a University Department, or college or institution affiliated to the university,” says a notification issued by the JU Registrar on Monday last.
However,  the University has not specified the nature of crime committed by the candidate seeking admission. The notification  also does not provide particular information as whether the admission seekers, desirous of pursuing higher education through distance education mode, would also be covered under it.
The controversial order  has invited sharp reaction of students, who accused the JU  administration of violating fundamental right of education.
In this connection, a delegation of ABVP also called on the Vice-Chancellor Prof M P S Ishar and sought immediate revocation of the said controversial order. The education is a fundamental right of every person and the JU  can not deny the same on any ground, they told the VC and warned stir over the issue.
