REASI, Nov 5: Reasi Campus, University of Jammu, today organized a guest lecture on `Expanding the Empire: Role of Zorawar Singh’ for the students of the MDP Sociology at the Reasi Campus.
The objective of the programme was to enlighten the students about the historical perspective of the contribution of Gen Zorawar Singh in J&K. Prof Suman Jamwal, former Head, Department of History and former Director, Centre for Women Studies, University of Jammu, was the resource person on the occasion.
Prof Pawanesh Abrol, Director, Reasi Campus, highlighted the achievements and different academic activities organized in the Campus. He emphasized that the young generation should be aware of their valuable history, culture and traditions as it plays important role in the development of society and nation.
Prof Suman Jamwal talked about the contribution of Gen Zorawar Singh in terms of expanding the erstwhile State. She said that while preserving once own traditional and cultural identities, one should rise above the cultural, traditional and political differences and embrace the positive values of the other cultures and communities.
The guest lecture was followed by an interactive session with the students and faculty members of the Campus, wherein all the students participated actively.
Sugam Bral, founder member, Jammu Diary was also present in the programme and he presented six portraits of Gen Zorawar Singh to the Reasi Campus, University of Jammu, free of cost. While addressing the audience he said that Jammu Diary is working for the visibility of regional identity and encouragement of artistic skill, culture and history of Jammu region.
Dr Nisha Sharma, Lecturer, conducted the proceedings of the programme and Diksha Bharti presented the vote of thanks. Besides Dr Ranjeet Kumar Sharma and Manoj Kumar, the programme was attended by all the students.
