Jammu, May 14: Additional Advocate General, J&K High Court Seema Khajooria Shekhar delivered a talk on “Legal Aspects of Sexual Harassment at Work Places” in a programme organized by CASH (Committee Against Sexual Harassment) University of Jammu.
The program took place in the Convention Hall, The Business School, University of Jammu and Prof. R.D. Sharma, Vice Chancellor was the chief guest. Prof. Satnam Kour, Chairperson CASH formally welcomed the guests and the audience which was followed by the talk.
Prof. Satnam Kour in her welcome address stated that the CASH was established in the University in 2009 and highlighted its various achievements and activities. She also provided detailed definition of ‘Sexual Harassment’, and presented the issue in all possible manifestations.
Seema Shekhar calls the ‘Sexual Harassment against Women’ as a disease that has created social, cultural and ethical imbalances. She urged that society needs be sensitized towards the equal status of women at work places so that they can contribute efficiently towards the social upliftment. The talk was followed by Question Answer session.
Prof. R.D. Sharma, Vice Chancellor promised to enhance the frequency of such sensitization programmes at regular interval of time in the University Campus so as to ensure gender equal conditions for women.
He further said that the society at large have to do introspection to evaluate what went wrong in the deviation of our cultural values and education system.
The formal vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Kavita Suri from the Department of Life-Long Learning who is also a member of CASH, University of Jammu.The programme was attended by students of the University, faculty members and officers from the administration.
