RAMBAN, May 14: A police constable was among two persons killed when a vehicle loaded with bovines they were traveling in skidded off the road and landed into a deep gorge near Shalgadi Nullah in Chambalwas area of tehsil Banihal on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway today.
The ill-fated vehicle bearing registration number JK02BC-4322 carrying seven bovines was on its way to Srinagar from Jammu, when the driver lost control over the vehicle and it plummeted into 300 feet deep gorge near Shalgadi Nullah in Chambalwas area of tehsil Banihal on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway this afternoon, resulting into on the spot death of a police constable posted with Banihal police station identified as Mohammad Sharief, son of Habibullah Malik of Neel, tehsil Banihal, at present Parnote, district Ramban.
The deceased constable had taken the lift from the vehicle and was going to join his duties in Banihal.
After getting information, police and locals rushed to the spot and retrieved the body of the constable and also shifted the two injured to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Banihal, where the conductor of the vehicle identified as Amanat ali, son of Shah Mohammad of Ragoora, Sidhra, Jammu failed to respond to the treatment and succumbed to his injuries.
The injured driver identified as Buta, son of Abdul Hamid of Bagh-e-Bahu, Jammu was responding to the treatment, when reports last came in.
The bodies of the deceased were handed over to family members for last rites after completing legal formalities.
In the incident, seven bovines were also killed.
A case in this regard has been registered at Banihal police station and investigation started.
Meanwhile, a driver of a vegetable loaded truck (JK08A-9980) got critically injured when the vehicle he was driving rolled down into gorge near Bisleri Nullah in Magarkote area in district Ramban. The vehicle was on its way to Srinagar from Jammu. The injured was shifted to hospital where he was undergoing treatment, when reports last came in. His identity was not ascertained till yet.
A case in this regard has been registered at Ramsoo police station and investigation started.
