JU Law School organizes expert lecture on Mahatma Gandhi

JAMMU, Nov 7: The Law School, University of Jammu, in collaboration with Gandhi Peace Foundation Jammu Chapter, today organised an expert lecture by Dr Anil Dutta Mishra, a distinguished Gandhian scholar and a writer.
Dr Mishra gave lecture on ” Mahatma Gandhi and 21st Century”. He threw light on The seven deadly sins referred to by Mahatma Gandhi as the root cause of disorderly modern societies namely wealth without work, pleasure without conscience, knowledge without character, commerce (business) without morality (ethics), science without humanity, religion without sacrifice and politics without principle.
He also acquainted the students with the journey through which Mohan Das Karam Chand Gandhi became ‘Mahatma ‘citing small instances from his childhood like inspection episode in the school, to the episode when Gandhiji was thrown out of a train at Pietermaritzburg Railway Station, despite having a first class ticket. Further he also highlighted the relevance of Gandhian principles of truth and nonviolence in the present era.
Presently Dr Mishra is an editor of ‘Sulabh India’ and honorary Senior Vice President ‘Sulabh International Social Service organisation’ . He started his career as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Nonviolence and Peace Studies, Jain Vishva Bharati University, Ladnun, Rajasthan. He has also remained Deputy Director of National Gandhi Museum and honorary Professor, Centre for Gandhian Philosophy and Human Development, Gayatri Vidya Parishad Degree College [Autonomous], Visakhapatnam. He has held the post of General Secretary of Indian Society of Gandhian Studies, Member, Board of Studies, Nagpur University and Punjab University and is member of Gandhian Studies Centre of different colleges and universities across India sponsored by UGC and honorary Treasurer, IIPA, Delhi Regional Branch.
The lecture was followed by an interactive session wherein the students asked various questions to the speaker. Earlier Dr Satinder Kumar, Director of The Law Schòol presented the welcome address.
Dr Seema Rohmetra , Assistant Professor in The Law School and coordinator Gandhi Peace Foundation Jammu Chapter, coordinated the event and expressed gratitude for Mr Mishra , having agreed to interact with the students. She also presented the formal vote of thanks.
Besides students and the faculty of The Law School, the lecture was attended by Seema Sharma, Monica Narang, Bindu Sangra, Rajneesh Khajuria, Vandita Sharma, Monika Bhardhwaj and Akash Sharma.
