JU Class-IV employees likely to suspend token strike from today

JAMMU, July 26: Following intervention of the Government administration,  ongoing  month-long token strike by Class-IV employees in Jammu University is likely to be suspended from tomorrow  as the  JU Non-Gazetted Employees Union has  agreed for the same if a written assurance for time bound action on their demands is given by the authorities.
The informal agreement was reached out during a meeting of the NGEU leaders and the JU authorities on the initiative of Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Simrandeep Singh and DIG Jammu-Kathua Range Ashkoor Wani, who personally visited the university campus today as Government representatives.
As the JU Task Force member, headed by registrar Prof Keshav Sharma explained that the university has already written to the Government over the demand for abolition of the existing Rs 2750 Pay Grade, the NGEU complained that the JU authorities had repeatedly backtracked from their earlier assurance on their demand.
However, at the same time, the NGEU president Vijay Kumar agreed to announce suspension of their ongoing token strike if a written assurance is given by the Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Commissioner and the DIG that their demand would be conceded in a time bound manner.
Even as the DIG pressed for immediate announcement for suspension of the strike, the NGEU leader said that a formal declaration in this regard would be made tomorrow in front of all the Class-IV employees at 10.30 a.m.
Pertinent to mention that the JU Class-IV employees have been observing token strike for the last 35 days pressing for their demands, which include removal of 2750 Grade, cancellation of order on disengagement of eight employees of Human Genetics Department, creation of posts of different categories, etc.
