JU Class-IV employees continue strike

JAMMU, Dec 11: Continuing their token strike against suspension of their two colleagues, class-IV employees of Jammu University observed two-hour protest and held demonstration on the campus for the third consecutive day, here today.
Shouting slogans in support of their demand, the protesting employees assembled in front of the Old Administration Block and held a demonstration there. They also took out a march on the campus.
The daily protest is being held under the banner of Jammu University Non-Gazetted Employees Union, which is demanding reinstatement of two Watchmen, who were suspended last week following the defacement of a stone plate replicating inauguration of Jammu University by then Chief Minister Sheikh Mohd Abdullah.
While addressing the protesting employees, NGEU president Vijay Sharma warned to extend the two-hour daily strike to indefinite full day if the suspended Watchmen are not reinstated.
Even as a meeting between the NGEU representatives and the Vice-Chancellor Prof R D Sharma was held last evening but the talks failed and the union decided to continue the ongoing stir till its demand is conceded.
