LEH, Nov 23: Jamyang Tsering Namgyal (JTN), former Member of Parliament from Ladakh, has taken a crucial step towards improving governance in the region. He met with the New Districts Committee in Leh and submitted a detailed memorandum recommending administrative reforms tailored to Ladakh’s unique social, economic, and geographical needs.
The memorandum included proposals for restructuring administrative units, strengthening grassroots governance, and defining district boundaries to enhance efficiency and inclusivity in Ladakh’s governance.
The New Districts Committee, chaired by Pramod Kumar Jain, also included Kacho Asfandyar Khan, Tsering Angchuk, and the Deputy Commissioners of Leh and Kargil as ex-officio members. The committee is tasked with preparing a roadmap for Ladakh’s administrative future.
Jamyang Tsering Namgyal praised the committee’s efforts to engage with stakeholders across Leh and Kargil, ensuring the process remains inclusive and participatory.
In his memorandum, Namgyal highlighted the need for all the seven proposed districts to Improve governance and administrative efficiency, deliver essential services closer to people’s homes and foster balanced socio-economic development across all regions.
Ex-MP JTN also discussed following three important areas of Zanskar, Nubra, Changthang, Drass, Sham, Leh, and Kargil administrative restructuring: proposals to rationalize administrative units for better governance, grassroots governance, recommendations to improve inclusivity and representation, boundary demarcations, suggestions for district boundaries respecting Ladakh’s socio-cultural and geographical realities of the respective regions.
JTN submitted supporting documents, including a 2020 file addressed to Home Minister, Amit Shah and representations from various stakeholders expressing their concerns and aspirations for new districts.
Former Member of Parliament also expressed gratitude to the Union Government, led by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and the Ladakh UT administration, headed by Lt. Governor Brig. (retd.) BD Mishra, for initiating this transformative process. The ex-MP expressed confidence that the Committee’s report will ensure fairness for all regions while aligning with national priorities.
This initiative is a significant step towards building a stronger governance framework for Ladakh, reflecting the aspirations of its people while preserving the region’s unique heritage and identity.
