JAMMU, Sept 19: Jammu Province People Forum (JPPF), an amalgam of more than 50 social, religious, traders, intellectuals and other organizations, today urged the Chief Minister to honour the resolution passed by the State Legislative Council besides public sentiments and declare State holiday on Sept 23, the birth anniversary of late Maharaja Hari Singh.
Expressing serious concern on the delay being caused by the State Government in declaring holiday on the eve of birth anniversary of late Maharaja, the Forum warned the State Government to resist from politicizing the issue, as any further move to undermine and play with the sentiments of Jammuites may create a situation beyond control for which only Government shall be responsible.
Addressing a meeting of civil society, convened to discuss jointly the future line of action, president of the Forum, Pavittar Singh Bhardwaj appealed CM Mehbooba Mufti to declare the holiday on birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh, as besides a Dogra ruler he was a popular personality amongst one and all in the State, who annexed Jammu and Kashmir with the Union of India, accredited with a historical decision which is more than enough to declare holiday in his honour.
Speaking on the issue of abolition of tax plaza at Lakhanpur, Bhardwaj said that in view of implementation of GST regime, whole country got rid of toll plazas except Lakhanpur in J&K which till date is charging extra State tax on all goods of daily use in addition to GST which is a gross contempt and violation of ‘One Nation One Tax Law’ prevalent in the country and amounts to further burden on the public in the already inflation infested State. He appealed the CM to immediately abolish the same otherwise public shall have no alternative but to resort to roads.
The members adopted a resolution which was unanimously passed by a voice vote. The resolution  urged the State Government to declare holiday on the eve of birth anniversary of late Maharaja Hari Singh by September 20 and immediate abolition of Toll Tax at Lakhanpur Toll Plaza.
