JAMMU, July 19: Bank employees from PNB and several other Public Sector Banks held protest demonstration against the policies of the Government at Shalamar Chowk here today.
The employees from various banks under the banner of Jammu Province Bank Employees Federation (JKBEF) affiliated to AIBEA led by Arun Kumar and Ashwani Pardhan, senior trade unionists assembled at Shalamar Chowk in the evening and held protest demonstration. The protest program was a part of 48th anniversary of Banks Nationalisation in India.
This day is observed on July 19 every year as ‘Save Public Sector Banks Day’. The protesting Bank employees were shouting slogans like, … ” Stop anti-people banking reforms, Do not privatise Public Sector banks, …Stop plans of merger of Banks, Do not allow Corporate defaulters to kill these Banks, Take action against willful defaulters , recover Corporate bad loans”.. etc.
JPBEF general secretary Arun Gupta and Ashwani Pardhan general secretary PNBOA addressed the gathering. They projected the achievements of these Banks and said that it has contributed a lot in raising the growth of the country and its development. They alleged that Government plans to induct private players in the banking sector putting investment of the people into risk. They described the decision of the Government as anti-people and anti-employee. They resolved to strongly oppose this move.
They both appealed the people in general defend and save Public Sector Banks. Senior members of the Federation, Ganesh Kumar, Manjit Singh, V K Dutta, T K Tikoo and R K Bamba also spoke onn the occasion.
