Jora reviews proposed bus stand up-gradation, multistorey parking projects

JAMMU, Feb 27: Minister for Urban Development and Urban Local Bodies, Nawang Rigzin Jora today reviewed the proposed multistorey parking and up-gradation project for General Bus Stand, besides two other parking slots proposed to be constructed at City Chowk and Panjthirthi, at a meeting attended by the Government functionaries and representatives of M/s Abacus Legal Group – the consultant company entrusted with the preparation of Detailed Project Report for the projects.
The consultant company, M/s Abacus Legal Group gave a power point presentation of the proposed projects. It was said that the remodeling of General Bus Stand would cost Rs. 100 crore, while the construction of parking slots at City Chowk and Panjthirthi would cost Rs. 30 crore each.
The project for the General Bus Stand envisages construction of multistorey parking slot and commercial centre with all latest facilities.
Principal Secretary, Planning B.R. Sharma, Commissioner Secretary Housing and Urban Development, Jeet Lal Gupta, Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Pardeep Gupta, Vice Chairperson, Jammu Development Authority, Sirta Chavan and other senior officers were present on the occasion.
While discussing the economic viability of the proposed projects, the meeting laid thrust on having spacious parking slots to cater to the increasing traffic rush in the city.
The meeting observed that owing to fast expansion of the city due to pressure of huge influx of people from other parts of the State, there was a need for futuristic and perspective planning.
The Minister, while reviewing the proposed projects, said that he will discuss the matter with Chief Minister for final takeoff.
It was said that, in order to deal with the increasing traffic congestions and traffic jams, the Jammu city needs identification of new parking slots and construction of sub ways to address the problem.
Mr Jora said that the Government was committed to develop two capital cities of Jammu and Srinagar on modern lines and the biggest challenge was to take measures to ease traffic congestion.
