JAMMU, Sept 30: Describing MSP, Public Procurement and PDS as three pillars of country’s food security, former Minister and senior Congress leader, Raman Bhalla today said new Farm Bills undermine the three pillars of our food security system.
Interacting with Sarpanches and Panches of Panchayat Darap in Gandhi Nagar Constituency on Wednesday, Bhalla said, BJP is caught in a self made web.
He claimed that successive Congress governments built brick by brick a food security system that culminated in National Food Security Act 2013.
Highlighting shortcomings in Farm Bills he said, “Modi government has surrendered to the corporates and traders. We promised to promote farmers producer companies and organisations to enable farmers to access inputs, technology and markets and to establish farmers’ markets with adequate infrastructure and support in large villages and small towns to enable farmers bring their produce and freely market the same.”
The Congress leader urged upon the opposition parties to join hands to oppose Farm Bills.
He urged upon J&K LG, Manoj Sinha to take immediate steps in maintaining peace and stability in the Union Territory.
“There is an urgent need to restore confidence among people with pro-people steps so that people could participate in development works,” Bhalla said adding that administration should make efforts to meet developmental aspirations of the locals.
He also said that without empowering Panchayats, public outreach programme will hold no significance.
Sarpanches and Panches briefed Bhalla about their problems like e-tendering.
The Congress leader said that solution to most of the problems in J&K lies in autonomous, empowered and powerful democratic institutions at micro level and that can be assured only through immediate implementation of 73rd and 74th amendment in the UT so that all funds directly reach to local bodies without any interference of the bureaucrats.
Prominent among those present on the occasion include Kissan Cell Congress Committee Chairman Gandhi Nagar, Sarpanch Kashmir Singh, Sarpanch Sunita Devi, Ch. Parveen Kumar, Panch Kuldeep Singh, Ashwani Kumar, Panch Soma Devi, Panch Balwinder Kour, Ex-Sarpanch Shamsher Singh and others.
