Jammu, Apr 2: Jammu Municipal Corporation today seized tools and other equipment of the contractors undertaking excavation work in Jammu city for laying fibre optic cables on behalf of Reliance Jio, Infocomm Ltd. The operation was led by Kiran Wattal, Commissioner, along with Health Officer, Executive Engineer (Trikuta Division) & (Central Division), Municipal Veterinary Officer Chief Enforcement Officer and other field staff of JMC in the areas of Sarwal, Talab Tillo and Gandhi Nagar.
The Corporation had already issued notice under Section 235 of Municipal Corporation Act, to the Company for immediately stopping the digging work which was causing inconvenience to the citizens in general, besides damaging public utilities.
Already a number of deputations and complaints were pouring in Jammu Municipal Corporation regarding the illegal work being conducted by the company and Corporation has for the last one week taking action through Enforcement Wing/ Health & Sanitation Wing for stoppage of work, a handout issued by JMC said.
It said, besides, anti encroachment drive was also undertaken in these areas as well as Partap Garh and Kanak Mandi seizing two truck loads of material. One Pakora Shop at Sarwal Chowk run by Jagdish Kumar son of Madan Lal was found under unhygienic condition and about 20 Kg of sub-standard oil was destroyed on spot and his registration under FSS Act was cancelled.
Two Halwai shops at Kanak Mandi were also checked and adulterated oil being used for making items was destroyed on spot and fine to the tune of Rs. 7000 realized from Chani Halwai and Rs. 7000 from Kasturi Halwai, and in Partap Garh mohalla Sardar Kulcha Wala was fined Rs. 10,000 for not providing quality products.
Further, Municipal Veterinary Officer, JMC and other staff conducted checking of Milk and realized fine of RS. 10,300 from defaulters.
JMC has warned the private companies not to undertake any of kind digging work or laying of cables in the limits of JMC without the prior permission from the Corporation and JMC also appeals to all the shop keepers to maintain their food items in safe and hygienic condition.
