JAMMU, Aug 3: Safai Karamchari Union (SKU), JMC today demanded a thorough probe in the matter of illegal occupancy of quarters made by JMC at Sunjuwan.
Addressing a press conference here today, Dev Anand Gill, president, SKU, JMC, said that some local union leaders of JMC illegally occupied the quarters made by JMC at Sunjuwan through poor Safai Karamcharies.
He said, however, these quarters were forcibly vacated the very next day after the intervention of JMC Commissioner, but instead of taking action against the erring Union leaders, the administration initiated action against poor Safai Karamcharies.
Gill regretted that the main culprits who pressurized casual Safai Karamcharies to handover quarters to them, ran away at the time of action while the innocent Safai Karamcharies faced action.
He demanded the higher authorities of the department to conduct a thorough probe into the matter and take action against the real culprits i.e. local Union leaders and not against poor and downtrodden Safai Karamcharies.
Meanwhile, Gill also appealed the authorities to hike wages of casual labourers and NGO labourers from RS 150 per day to Rs 300.
Other members of SKU present on the occasion were Shanker Kumar, Rashpal, Gagi Moman, Gopal Krishan, Chaman Lal, Sheel, Anil, Bhagat Ram, Rakesh and Rohit.
