JMC Commissioner reviews progress of ABC/ARV prog

JAMMU, July 8: A meeting of ABC/ARV monitoring committee under the chairmanship of M Raju, Commissioner, JMC was held today to review the programme of ongoing ABC/ARV programme.
The programme is being executed by Maharashtra based NGO ‘Nanded Society’ for prevention of cruelty to animals.
The incharge of ABC/ARV programme apprised the meeting that more than 2500 stray dogs have been sterilized/immunized till date covering the areas like Roop Nagar, Janipur, Newplot, Ambphalla, Bakshi Nagar, Shakti Nagar, etc. He informed that the programme is going on smoothly in a humane and scientific manner abiding the guidelines issued by Supreme Court of India and SOP issued by AWBI.
It was also discussed that lot of pet clinics and pet breeders are running their business illegally with in JMC limits. Taking serious note of this, Commissioner JMC directed that a sub-committee under the supervision of Municipal Veterinary Officer be constituted to look after the illegal running of these units. He said that the committee will submit its report within two weeks.
