JAMMU, Sept 8: Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Kiran Wattal inspected the damages caused due to heavy floods in various areas during past few days.
He was accompanied by Executive Engineer (T), Health Officer, Municipal Veterinary Officer, Chief Transport Officer, Sanitation Officers and other field staff of JMC.
In Gujjar Nagar area, he directed the staff members to immediately deploy both men and machinery at Jogi Gate cremation site to make it functional. He also directed to remove the muddy mulba and make the lanes and drains functional at Gujjar Nagar and also directed Health Officer, Chief Transport Officer and Municipal Veterinary Officer to use different disinfectants in the area.
In Partap Garh area, Commissioner directed the officials to remove the hanging portion of a building and also directed them to remove mulba from the lanes.
In Peerkho area, Commissioner directed XEn (T) to deploy labour to remove all the dumped mulba from the houses and wash the area with water and use disinfectants, whereas in Science College and Krishna Nagar areas, he directed the CTO to desilt the area and also engage the labour for its final finishing to its original status.
He also visited Asrarabad, Sidhra area where he directed to provide crates along the side of the nallah so that flood water may not enter into the areas. He also visited some lanes of the area and directed to take immediate action so as to provide immediate relief to the people.
Commissioner instructed all the officers to visit the area of Jewan Nagar, Gangyal and deploy both men and machinery at both these sites for restoration of work. He was apprised that 50 per cent work was completed and rest was in progress.
He directed the officials to accelerate the restoration work and any support required be fulfilled in the interest of relief work.
Meanwhile, a team of food safety officers led by Health Officer JMC Dr Mohammad Saleem Khan inspected shops engaged in manufacturing and selling of momos at Exchange Road, Kachi Chawani, Panjtirthi, Bantalab and New Plot areas and destroyed approximately 2 quintals of prepared momos and 50 kilograms of material used for preparing them as it was found unfit for human consumption.
Municipal Veterinary Officer, Dr Zafar Iqbal along with field staff conducted a drive at Janipur, Muthi, Science College, Kanji House and Shaheedi Chowk areas and checked about 110 quintals of milk. A fine of Rs 8400 was realized from the defaulters.
