JMC Commissioner chairs ABC/ARV Monitoring Committee meeting

JAMMU, Aug 10: Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Rahul Yadav today chaired ABC/ARV Monitoring Committee meeting to review the current status of ongoing ABC/ARV programme within JMC limits.
The meeting was attended by all the members of ABC Monitoring Committee viz. Anil Kumar Masoom (Councillor, Ward Number 10), Dr Sher Singh, Disease Investigation Officer, Animal Husbandry Department, Jammu (Representative SPCA Jammu), Dr Vinod Sharma (Health Officer, JMC), Dr Sushil Kumar Sharma, Municipal Veterinary Officer (MVO), Devinder Kour Madaan, Chairperson, SAVE (NGO) and Namrata Hakhoo (founder/chairperson, Hakhoo Street Animals Foundation Trust).
During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on the various aspects and progress of the ongoing ABC/ARV program being implemented by Animal Welfare Organization ‘Friendicoes-SECA’ in collaboration with JMC at Municipal Animal Care Centre/ABC Centre, Roop Nagar, Jammu.
Dr Sushil Kumar Sharma apprised the meeting that since the Award of Contract to the implementing agency (with effect from 01-04-2021 to 31-07-2022), 9781 number of stray dogs have been sterilized and vaccinated by the agency with ward wise/complaint basis catching and all sterilized and vaccinated dogs are relocated in the same area from where they were caught as per the ABC (Dogs) Rules, 2001 promulgated under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
The MVO further apprised that so far total 26,878 stray dogs have been sterilized/vaccinated within JMC limits by taking into account of previous ABC done by the JMC.
In the meeting it was decided that to control the stray dogs’ population effectively and sustainably in a time bound manner, JMC shall create more infrastructure and for that MVO was directed to take up the matter with the concerned Engineering wing of JMC for formulation of DPR.
Commissioner JMC urged the general public for their cooperation in the implementation of ABC programme within JMC limits and also stressed for better coordination among the JMC authorities, Animal activist volunteers and Animal Welfare organization operating in the area for making this programme a grand success.
