JAMMU, Feb 8: Members of Jambu Lochan Civil Society met with IG Traffic Jagjeet Kumar and handed him over a memorandum of demands highlighting the Traffic problems in Jammu city and seeking resolution of the same.
The Society apprised that within a span of nearly one year, Talab Tillo road has witnessed five deaths of innocent persons due to negligent and rash driving of commercial vehicles, which are plied in uncontrolled manner due to the lenient and supporting attitude of the law enforcing agencies, which seem to be hand in glove with the erring operators.
The Society alleged that the Traffic officials usually remain absent in congested areas and are seen only in hunting mode at isolated and unimportant roads targeting only two wheelers, load carriers or vehicle from outside the State for the reason best known to them.
Besides rash driving, the memorandum says, some vehicles use pressure horns, high volume music players and some times even carry a team of goons to terrorize the passengers who object to the use of loud music, rash driving and frequent stopping to pick up passengers causing great inconvenience to other vehicles.
Explaining that the Traffic cops deployed at Jewel Chowk, Canal Head etc never bother about regulating vehicular movement and remain as mute spectators, the Society also drew attention towards Vikas Lane, Friends Lane, Gole Pully, Talab Tillo Chowk, Poonch House, Bohri and Patta Chowk where the roads being quite narrow get blocked due to stoppage of vehicles for 5-10 minutes at every spot.
IG Traffic assured that necessary action would be taken and result will be visible within a week’s time.
The deputation comprised of Ch Kamal Singh, K S Katoch, Ranjeev Ahluwalia, Veena Rathore, Gurvinder Kour Bhatia, K L Atri, T C Bhagat, Ravi Razdan, Sunny and Sanjeev Chopra.
