JAMMU, Aug 6: SCERT J&K, Divisional Office Jammu organized workshop on recent trends and approaches in English Language Teaching (ELT).
This programme was organized by Department of Education in Languages, Academic Unit-I, JKSCERT Jammu, under the mentorship of Director JKSCERT Prof Parikshit Singh Manhas and guidance and supervision of H R Pakhroo, Joint Director, JKSCERT Jammu.
The target group of the program was 40 newly promoted Lecturers in English, four from each district. The programme was organised with an aim to create awareness regarding recent trends and approaches in ELT as per the demands of NEP-2020 and to build the capacity of the participants to adopt the current trends and pedagogies in English while transacting the content in class.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by H R Pakhroo as chief guest and other dignitaries present on the occasion were Prof Swarn Singh Jaral, Prof Surjeet Kumar, Associate, N P Singh, Kishore Kumar, Romi Kumar, Parveen Akther, Pushpa Kaith and Dr Sanjeevani from SCERT, Jammu.
While addressing the participants, Pakhroo inspired everyone to keep pace with changing time and stressed upon the need to adopt recent trends and approaches in language teaching as envisaged in NEP 2020.
The Resource Persons included Monica Sharma, Nahida Anjum, Manisha Chun, Neeraj Jamwal, Rakesh Chobber, Jeevan Singh, Sushil Hitaishi, Sheikh Gulzar and Dr Balgar Singh, the faculty members of JKSCERT .They provided a deep insight on the innovative trends and approaches that are gaining momentum in English language teaching.
The sessions on teaching of prose, poetry, writing skills, vocabulary and grammar enlightened the participants on the use of innovative pedagogies in the classroom whereas the sessions on effective communication and integration of ICT in teaching of English apprised the participants of choosing and using wisely from the flood of teaching learning resources available online in the best interest of the students.
The programme was coordinated by Manisha Chun while Monica Sharma was Associate Coordinator and Rakesh Chobber was the Technical Coordinator.
On the concluding day of the programme, participants presented group presentations and also shared their valuable feedback. H R Pakhroo urged the participants to disseminate the knowledge and experiences gained in the programme in the field and work as per the vision of NEP 2020.
The programme ended with motivational speech by Kishore Kumar, Associate Professor, JKSCERT Jammu and vote of thanks was presented by Monica Sharma.
