JAMMU, May 4: The Jammu Kashmir Sharnarthi Action Committee (JKSAC) has extended its gratitude to Amit Shah, Union Home Minister and Joint Secy Kashmir Division Prashant Lokhande for re-opening of the ex-gratia relief scheme of Rs 5.5 lakhs for DPs of 1947, 1965 & 1971 upto March 2024.
The participants during a meeting held today also appreciated Manoj Sinha and his UT govt for taking cognizance of this sensitive issue and pursued the matter vigorously with Ministry of Home Affairs for extension of the scheme. The meeting also extended thanks to Dr Narinder Singh, National Secy. BJP for taking up the issue at various levels of Central Govt and appealed to both the governments. To extend the time period upto March 2025 to accommodate all the DPs of 1947, 1965 & 1971.
While interacting with the members present in the meeting Gurdev Singh, president alongwith senior leaders appreciated the Govt and said that this timely step of the Govt has saved the legitimate rights of thousands of remaining families who were denied benefits because of the closure of the scheme in Feb 2022. He apprehended that the remaining thousands of families having no mandatory formalities prescribed by the govt. to identify their DP status may not be able to file their cases within the short period of eleven months as the same are not traceable in the PRO office.
Singh said that the closure of the scheme was strongly opposed by JKSAC as it was illogical and arbitrary. He said that JKSAC was constantly approaching and appraising the Govt. at all levels since 2020 to take the cognizance of the issue seriously to accommodate all the remaining families in the scheme so that they also be benefitted.
While expressing gratitude once again the participants appealed to Lt Governor, Manoj Sinha to impress upon the Central Govt to extend the date at least upto March 2025 to accommodate PoJK DPs families on the basis of supplementary records which is equally sufficient to identify their DPs status.
Senior members Ashok Sharma, Pawan Kumar, Rajinder Singh, Dwarka Nath, Bhagwan Singh and Capt Puran Singh Chib also spoke during the meeting.
