JAMMU, Dec 2: Jammu and Kashmir Pollution Control Committee (JKPCC) observed “National Pollution Control Day” at Kalika Bhawan, Railhead Complex, here today.
The gathering observed two minutes silence in the memory of Bhopal Gas Tragedy victims. Chairman, JKPCC deliberated upon various environmental aspects and measures to prevent pollution and suggested to have a common platform for discussion among the regulators, implementing agencies and waste generators including various associations to understand the need to take preventive measures by one and all to save the planet.
President of Industries Association Gangyal, Bari Brahmana and Samba also participated in the event. Members of various Eco-clubs from Government Degree Colleges along with their coordinators also participated in the event.
The address was given by Member Secretary of JKPCC who also briefed the participants for adoption of waste minimization and recycling measures for prevention of pollution.
Regional Director, JKPCC impressed upon all participants to work with commitment at their levels to ensure wide awareness among general masses to take small steps at household level and at level of departments and industries to prevent pollution at source level.
The presentation on the trends of abatement of pollution of air and water and strategies and approaches adopted for prevention and abatement of pollution through cost effective technologies was given by the Environmental Engineer of JKPCC.
The guest speakers on the occasion were Dr Deepika Slathia (Associate Professor, Department of Environment, Jammu University) and Dr Shaweta Yadav (Senior Assistant Professor, Central University) who gave presentation on water pollution and water conservation measures and bio-mass burning and its control.
The participants resolved to make necessary life style changes to mitigate the problem of pollution in general and for protection of the ozone layer in particular.
