JKPCC intensifies anti- polythene drive

JAMMU, June 3: To eradicate the menace of polythene carry bags, J&K Pollution Control Committee has intensified the drive and carried out surprise inspections, raids and checking at different locations of Jammu province and seized a huge quantity of banned material during this week.
Divisional Officer, J&K Pollution Control Committee Jammu with the help of Jammu Police have seized 1725 kgs (69 gunny bags) of polythene carry bags below 75 microns in thickness. The offence was compounded for an amount of Rs. 50,000. The consignment was loaded in a passenger bus coming from Punjab and delivering the banned material to Vehicle No JK02AR 0713 (Tata Mobile) for transportation to Kashmir.
At Lakhanpur Kathua, Anti Polythene Checkpost, under the supervision of Divisional Officer PCC Kathua, intercepted a passenger bus bearing registration No JK02CN 5215 and seized about 1500 Kgs of banned polythene from it.
Divisional Officer PCC Poonch along with his field team also conducted anti anti-polythene drive in Surankote town and seized 52 Kg of banned polythene. Moreover 13.5 Kg of said banned material has also been seized in Udhampur, Kishtwar and Ramban districts by the field officers of this Committee.
Meanwhile, Dr. Neelu Gera, Chairperson and K. Ramesh Kumar, Member Secretary J&K Pollution Control Committee have advised citizens of Jammu & Kashmir UT to shun the polythene and single use plastic and adopt eco-friendly alternatives in their day to day life.
