JAMMU, Mar 20: Strongly castigating the NC-Congress coalition for neglecting the far flung areas of Reasi district, Jammu Kashmir Democratic Front (JKDF) candidate for Udhampur-Doda constituency Anil Gupta said areas of Katra and Reasi have been discriminated in its due share to employment opportunities and equal development.
“Despite vast natural resources, Government’s incapability to utilize the same has given chance to outsiders of exploring the same for their benefits. Conversely these natural resources could have provided various employment avenues to youth of the region and raised the level of development. Citing the example of Salal Hydel Project, he said despite such a big project in Reasi, the area is hardly benefited as the major chunk of power generated is outsourced.
Addressing a series of meetings and road-shows in Katra, Pouni, Ransoo and Shiv Khori in Reasi district, Gupta said having holy shrine of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi in its vicinity and hub of trade and tourism, the approaching roads to Katra town and its surrounding areas are dilapidated and witness the apathy of Government and those who represent this area since last ten years.
Lakhs of tourists’ visit this place for pilgrimage to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine every year, tourism is the major source of income for the people of this area but hardly any effort has been made to develop more tourist sites in this area despite of having vast potential for the same owing to its natural and scenic beauty.
JKDF is concerned about the plight of VDCs and SPOs who played vital role in neutralizing militancy in this belt. They have made big sacrifices while performing their duties towards the nation. JKDF shall strive for enhancement of honorarium of these forces and if given a chance to represent the constituency shall demand for conversion of these forces into special task force on the pattern of central paramilitary forces.
