JAMMU, Feb 23: A 4-day multilingual playwright workshop organized by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art Culture and Languages (JKAACL) here at K L Saigal Hall was inaugurated today in an impressive function attended by galaxy of writers, intellectuals and theatre personalities.
Padam  Shree M L Kemmu, a prominent writer, presided over the function. Nationally renowned theatre directors, Deepak Kumar and Mushtaq Kak and secretary, Academy, Haroon Rashid were also in the presidium.
Haroon Rashid, while welcoming the guests stated that Academy is promoting a number of theatre activities in regional languages of the State. For writers we hold Play Script Award in nine languages every year and hold workshop to expose them to contemporary trends of writings, he added.
He said the main aim of this workshop is to provide a platform to playwright of different languages to interact with senior writers of each language on various issues of writing pieces for theatre.
Speaking about the workshop, Javaid Rahi, chief editor of Academy, incharge officer, stated that 20 play script writers representing Kashmiri, Dogri, Gojri, Pahari, Punjabi, Urdu and Hindi have been invited to participate in this event. At the end, every writer will share his experience about the workshop and will contribute a play for the language after the conclusion of the event.
M L Kemmu in his presidential address stressed upon the Academy to hold regular workshops to promote play script writing skills in regional languages. He also shared his own length of experience in the subject and presented his views about the play script writing traditions in Jammu and Kashmir.
Deepak Kumar who is the director of the workshop stated that our writers should have to follow the contemporary trends emerging worldwide in the field of play script writing. He said that writers should use state of art technique to express their views to reach the new generation.
Dr Sudhir Mahajan SOCA G-1 of Academy conducted the programme. Those who participating  in the workshop include Rajnish Gupta, Payare Hatash, Kumar A Bharti, Shiekh Azad, Parvez Malik, Hassan Parwaz, Anwar Chowdahry, Baljeet Raina, Liaqat Jafri, Sunita Budwal, Rita Khadyal, Dr Ratan Lal, Dr Chanchal Sharma and Yehshpal.
