UDHAMPUR, Mar 30: Reiterating that Narendra Modi led Government at Centre is committed to development of J&K and North Eastern Region, Union Minister in PMO with independent charge of North Eastern States, Dr Jitendra Singh today expressed the hope that State Government will take the maximum benefit of liberal support extended by Union Government to it.
Addressing a public darbar at Majalta near here, Dr Jitendra Singh said the J&K Government should take a cue from North Eastern States who are not losing any opportunity in taking the optimum benefit of Central sponsored schemes especially in setting up of new projects and boosting of industrial sector by openly welcoming the outside investors.
He said if the North Eastern States, which were far behind in development have taken the full benefit of the Central sponsored schemes and opened the doors for investors from other parts of country, why can’t J&K?
Dr Jitendra Singh said many game changing projects were sanctioned by Modi Government for J&K State during its last four years rule at Centre and settling of Shahpur -Kandi impasse between Punjab Government and J&K State which was handing in balance for over three decades is one of the greatest achievements of the present regime.
He, without naming the previous Governments in the State, said that that instead of settling Shahpur- Kandi impasse, they had other priorities for themselves and they never bothered for the benefit of the Kandi belt of twin districts of Kathua and Samba. Instead of settling the Shapur -Kandi issue with Punjab, the leaders of these parties made a hue and cry on Indus water treaty saying that J&K has been put on disadvantage by signing this treaty as the water of three major rivers of the State flows to Pakistan.
The Union Minister said it was he who took up this issue with the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and informed him that the J&K is not utilizing the water of those rivers which are under its control and allow it to flow to Pakistan by citing the example of river Ravi and Shahpur Kandi dam.
He said it was with the efforts of PM that the agreement was reached between the Chief Secretaries of the two riparian States and soon this project will see the light of the day.
Dr Jitendra Singh announced that after the work begins on Shapur Kandi, the Centre will give nod to the construction of Ujh Multi Purpose Project which besides catering to the irrigation and drinking water needs of the people in Kathua and Samba districts will also boost the power generation in the State.
Highlighting the achievements of Narendra Modi Government, he said the Prime Minister has gained such popularity in the country that even the opposition leaders who publicly criticize him privately acknowledge his policies, programmes and admired his acumen.
He termed the demonetization and GST as two bold decisions taken by Narendra Modi as Prime Minister of India which no leader other than him could have dared. The people fully endorsed the decision on demonetization as was seen in the outcome of UP election results over a year back, he added.
He said people understand that the demonetization and GST decisions are favourable to their children and hence they trust PM.
Dr Jitendra Singh said Narendra Modi and BJP national president Amit Shah have introduced new work culture in politics as they are working round the clock to make the entire system transparent in the country.
Terming it an era of youth, he said the new trend is emerging in the polity of country now and the youth who form the 70 percent of population can’t be corrupted or influenced by the elders any more now as they have an independent thinking.
Dr Jitendra Singh said India has a great potential of youth and they may change the fate of this country by joining the development programmes launched by Prime Minister in making India the Vishaw Guru.
He said the time is changing fast and the days of feudal mindset have gone as people have awakened now. “Those who have capacity, energy and honest approach will only be acceptable to the masses as it is the country of youth who can’t be misled now”, he added.
On the various new projects for the Ramnagar Constituency, Dr Jitendra Singh asked MLA R S Pathania to visit Delhi so that the issue of bridge and roads can be taken with Union Surface Transport Minister ,Nitin Gadkari. On the construction of KV, he said if the land is identified for the same by the district administration the project can be got okayed from Union Human Resource Development Ministry. He however regretted the delay created in the conservation and development of Mansar lake by the CEO, Mansar Development Authority and asked the MLA to pursue the project so that the work is not further delayed.
Dr Jitendra Singh directed the officers to complete the ongoing development projects within the set timelines and keep proper check on the quality of material used in the construction of public assets. He asked them to ensure doorstep delivery of essential services to the people living in rural and far-off areas of the state.
He further informed that the Government has approved 27 projects under PMGSY in Ramnagar, besides clearing most of the pending road projects. He said in Udhampur, landmark projects were approved by the Government including Devika River Cleaning Project and Radio Station for the district.
