SRINAGAR, Apr 29: Police today busted a Jash-e- Mohammad (JeM) militant module involved in grenade attacks and planting Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in Awantipora area of district Pulwama.
Senior Superintendent of police Awantipora,Tahir Saleem, said that they arrested four persons involved in various militant activities in Tral and Awantipora areas of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
He said that Police arrested one Murtaza of Amlar Tral on a specific input and recovered one Chinese pistol with two magazines and 8 pistol rounds ammunition from his possession.
The SSP said that Murtaza along with another person Aqib came in contact with JeM militants operating in Tral and Awantipora area headed by one Khalid Bhai from Pakistan.
Salim said that the duo has been involved in arranging transport and logistics for the JeM, who are wanted in firing upon civilian Naseer Ahmad of Nowpora Tral and injuring him critically.
The duo on the direction of the JeM Commander Khalid Bhai and Umar Bhai arranged explosive and other allied material for preparing and planting IED on Tral- Lariyal road in March this year with intention to trigger the IED on security forces vehicle.
The prepared IED was kept at Government School Amlar Nowpora near Aqib’s house for two days before planting it. However, due to the lightening and heavy rains during the intervening night of March 2, the IED went off on its own due to short circuit of trigger mechanism.
Murtaza along with his associate lobbed grenade on the residence of Deputy Superintendent of Police Special Operations Group Awantiproa on March 3. The SSP said that the grenade was provided to them by JeM groups headed by Khalid Bhai and Umar Bhai.
Tahir said that both Murtaza and Aqib have been involved in motivating youth to join the JeM. They succeeded in motivating two youth, one from Zuvistan Tral and another from Nigeenpora Tral to join JeM in the April this year.
Irfan-ul-Haq of Gadli Khal Awantipora has also been in contact with same JeM group and obtained grenades from them. He lobbed grenade on CRPF Camp Awantipora and has been operating various Whatsapp groups and transferring/sharing incriminating material on the said Whatsapp groups with some outside country numbers also.
