SRINAGAR, Apr 2: The brother of slain Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) commander Noor Mohammad Tantray alias Noor Trali was today arrested by the National Investigating Agency (NIA) for his links with a Fidayeen attack on a Central Reserve Police Force camp in 2017 in Awantipora area of Pulwama district in South Kashmir.
Nisar Ahmed Tantray whose name had surfaced in Fidayeen attack that was carried out on December 30, 2017 on Lethpora camp in Pulwama district by JeM had gone into hiding. He had recently fled to United Arab Emirates (UAE). He was, however, brought back by the Government and arrested by the NIA soon after he landed at International Airport today.
The NIA took over the investigations of Fidayeen attack last year in February and registered a case (under Sections 459, 460 and 307 of the Ranbir Penal Code, Sections 7 and 27 of Arms Act and Sections 16, 18 and 20 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967).
Three Fidayeen had stormed the CRPF training centre at Lethpora in Pulwama district. The fidayeen attack stretched for over 37 hours, and left five paramilitary soldiers and all three Fidayeens dead.
The two Fidayeens were identified as Manzoor Ahmad Baba of Drubgam Pulwama and Fardeen Ahmad Khanday of Nazneen Pora, Tral. Fardeen was the son of a police constable. This was first time that local militants were used as Fidayeeen by the JeM.
Trantray’s name surfaced during the investigations of the case. He is brother of Noor Trali who was JeM commander and revived JeM in South Kashmir after he was released from jail in July 2017.
Trali was killed on December 27, 2018 but not before he had revived the JeM.
