Littered explosive kills boy

SRINAGAR, Dec 29 : Four militants of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) including their commander were killed this morning in a gun battle in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district while a boy was killed when he fiddled with an explosive in an orchard in the district.
Security forces including Army’s 44 Rashtriya Rifles (RR); 182, 183 battalion of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police, based on a credible input about the presence of militants in Hanjan Payeen area of district Pulwama, cordoned off the village and conducted searches.
The militants hiding in the village fired on the troops and they retaliated leading to a gun battle. Four militants were killed in the encounter and the bodies were recovered from the site of encounter. Click here to watch video
The militants have been identified as Muzamil Nabi Dar of Rohmoo, Muzamil Nazir Bhat of Prichoo, Waseem Akram Wani of Tikken and a Pakistani Khaleel alias Haris.
Muzamil Nabi Dar had joined JeM in August this year and was nominated as district commander of the outfit. Muzamil Nazir Bhat had joined LeT in August this year and later shifted to JeM while Waseem Akram Wani joined Hizbul Mujahideen last year in October and then shifted to JeM.
Police said that they were involved in attacks on security forces and harassing of the civilians of the area.
Police have registered a case and investigations are being conducted. “Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of the encounter,” police said.
Srinagar based Defence spokesman, Colonel Rajesh Kalia said that four militants were killed by security forces during the operation in Pulwama. “Huge quantity of arms and ammunition and war like stores were recovered from the encounter site”, he said.
In the meantime, scores of persons were injured during the clashes that erupted in Hanjin area after protesters pelted stones on the security forces. Security forces fired tear gas to disperse the protesting youth.
The injured were either shifted to nearby hospital for treatment or were treated locally. One among the injured was shifted to Srinagar for treatment.
Large number of people participated in the funeral prayers of the militants.
The mobile internet services were suspended across the district soon after the encounter broke out in the village.
And a 10-year-old-boy who was injured critically in a mysterious blast at Gadoora area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district today succumbed to injuries in SMHS hospital.
Arif Ahmad Dar son of Abdul Ghani Dar, a resident of Larrow succumbed to injuries at SMHS hospital here this evening.
The boy was injured after he was fiddling with some explosive material in an orchard at Gadoora where he was grazing cattle. The device went off resulting in serious injuries to him.
