JDA has created real mess in all that it was supposed to do formally. The issue of JDA’s inability to vacate the illegal encroachments came up for the consideration of the 77th meeting of the Board of Directors of JDA presided over by the Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh. The Dy CM has taken very serious view of the former Vice Chairman Muhammad Aslam Qureshi allotting 295 residential and commercial plots of JDA to undeserving people throwing all rules and norms to wind. It is disclosed that most of these plots were allotted to influential political leaders and bureaucrats against the rules and regulations. The Dy Chief Minister directed that FIR be lodged against the former Vice Chairman.
We strongly welcome the decision taken by the Board of Directors and the Dy Chief Minister. The mess created by JDA needs to be cleared and all irregularities have to be accounted for. The strange thing is that officially according to revenue records about 77,000 kanals of land has been transferred to JDA but actually it is not in possession of more than 17,000 kanals. It has no clue where the land is. This has necessitated the Deputy Chief Minister to order that an inventory of the entire JDA lands be prepared within 15 days. He has also ordered monitoring the progress of this work.
In final analysis, this is a bold and right step in right direction. The Board of Directors must pursue the matter without relent. The legal advisory unit of the JDA is also culpable for not offering its legal advice on all administrative and functional matters of JDA. Under the formula of removing the dead wood, those who are not competent to be the functionaries of this organization should be declared dead wood and dealt with accordingly.
