JAMMU, Feb 5: A deputation of Jammu Chamber of Commerce & Industry (JCCI) called upon the Governor Satya Pal Malik regarding two major demands being ‘ One Nation One Tax’ and early allotment of land for construction of “Dry Port”.
The deputation led by JCCI president Rakesh Gupta also submitted a memorandum to the Governor with several demands. During meeting the members projected that it has been a long pending demand of Chamber of Commerce & Industry and the affiliated associations to implement the “One Nation One Tax” in the State as done in other states of the country. They said the Chamber has time and again been putting forth the demand to abolish State Toll Tax on goods at Lakhanpur post GST regime since July 2017, but the demand has remained unaddressed.
The JCCI claimed that their body also represents Industry and as per information available with them, 90% of the Industry is not being benefitted by this levy of Toll Tax on goods. Those Industries in the State whose turnover is huge do not require additional support from the Government except few products with low profit margins.
Gupta said a major chunk of Industrial incentives package and also a major portion of Toll Tax exemption being given to the manufactures of insecticides and pesticides is most objectionable. It would not be out of place to point out that only J&K State has been generous to give the manufacturing licences to these units who are not only polluting the air but also our rivers and the irrigated land. Gupta said the Government should assess JCCI demand after getting the factual figures of sales of these units availing all these benefits in terms of sales within the State, imports and exports.
JCCI further demanded allotment of land for the construction of “Dry Port ” as per the MoU signed between the J&K Government and the Dubai Ports World.
Other office bearers-Rajesh Gupta, Manish Gupta, Gaurav Gupta and Ashu Gupta; Rajesh Sharma-Chairman Kissan Council J&K, Deepak Gupta- general secretary Traders Federation Warehouse, Surinder Mahajan, president Raghunath Bazar Businessmen Association and Anoop Mittal – president Kanak Mandi Traders Association also accompanied.
