JAMMU, May 4: Socio-political activist Jayesh Gupta today expressed serious concern over rising crime rate in Jammu and appealed to the police and other controlling agencies to take strict action against those involved in crime incidents.
Addressing a press conference here today, Jayesh Gupta said that in the last few months, crime rate is rising in Jammu. He said on every other day, we hear about crimes like murder, kidnapping, land grabbing, rape, snatching, thefts etc. “We had not heard about gangsters in Jammu but recently we saw how a gangsters’ group shot dead a police officer in Kathua and a few days ago, a man was murdered in a land dispute case,” he added.
“The administration needs to ponder over it seriously so that Jammu which is known as City of Temples can be kept free from all these crimes,” Jayesh said, adding, if adequate steps are not taken timely, the day is not far when it will become difficult for people to move around Jammu city.
He said things like chain snatching, thefts and drug smuggling were already common in Jammu city, and women fear to move alone while wearing costly jewellery and now gangsters have started ruling the roost here. Jayesh urged the LG administration and J&K police to take adequate measures to deal with all these things and strict action against those involved in serious crimes so that the people of Jammu city can breathe a sigh of relief.
