Jat Sabha pays tribute to Maharaj Suraj Mal

JAMMU, Dec 26: On the eve of 258th Balidan Diwas of Maharaja Suraj Mal, Jat ruler, a function was organized here today by All J&K Jat Sabha at Langar Colony.
Remembering sacrifice of Maharaj Suraj Mal, Sabha members paid tribute to the great ruler of Jat community on his martyrdom day.
Speaking on the occasion S. Manjit Singh, Sabha president said that Maharaja Suraj Mal was born on February 13, 1707 and attained martyrdom on December 25, 1763 while fighting the enemy.
He said Maharaj Suraj Mal was a great Hindu ruler of Bharatpur, Rajasthan under whom the Jat rule extended till the present national capital Delhi and districts of Agra, Aligarh, Bulandshahr, Dholpur, Faridabad, Firozabad, Hathras, Mathura, Mewat, Meerut and Muzaffarnagar.
Singh urged upon J&K government to include Jat community in OBC category as it has been done in other States too.
Speaking on the occasion Ch. Vikram Randhawa, former MLC and Sabha vice president said that communities which forget their history cannot progress and prosper.
He urged upon the community members to study history of their leaders and their sacrifices for the nation and community as well.
Those who were present on the occasion were Dwarka Choudhary, District president of Jat Sabha and JMC Councillor; Harbans Choudhary, general secretary; Mandeep Madan Choudhary, Youth leader; Yashwant Singh Natty and others.
