JAMMU, Oct 5: School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, University of Jammu today commenced three day long celebrations of “Jashn-e-Riyasat, 2016 – Celebrating the colours of J&K”.
Prof. Keshav Sharma, Registrar JU, and Dean, Faculty of Business Studies, was the chief guest and Dr. Naseem Jawed Choudhary, Joint Director, Hospitality and Protocol, Jammu, was the guest of honor for the inaugural ceremony. The event was attended by the culinary experts from various other institutions, students of participating institutions and the students of School of Hospitality & Tourism Management.
Prof. Keshav Sharma, in his address, emphasized that students should make the best use of such opportunities to enhance their creativity and professional skills.
Dr. Naseem Jawed Choudhary talked about the crucial role of tourism development to protect the heritage of the State. He also laid stress on the fusion of industry and academia for identifying solutions to various issues and challenges in the tourism sector.
Earlier Professor Parikshat Singh Manhas, Director, SHTM, said that the event has been conceptualized to promote, preserve and popularize Jammu and Kashmir’s rich heritage.
Dr. Anil Gupta was the Deputy Coordinator and Dr. Suvidha Khanna was the organizing secretary of the event.
Prof Deepak Raj Gupta, the Event Advisor, in his concluding remarks, stressed on the conservation of heritage and culture for sustainable tourism development in the state.
Later, during the day, various competitions were held which included “Expressions” – A Painting Competition, “Your Travel Selfie” – A Selfie competition and “Game of Plates” – A Fireless Cooking Competition. Vijay Handa from AVM Travel Pvt Ltd, Arun Kerni from Athithi Devo and Amarjeet Singh from Doordarshan were the adjudicators for the painting competition. Dr Sanjay Sharma from University of Jammu and Sandeep Katoch were the jury for the selfie competition while Chef Jaswinder Singh from, UIHMT, Panjab University Chandigarh; Chef Varinder Rana from GNA University, Phagwara and Chef Naman Arora from Ambedkar Institute of Hotel Management, Chandigarh were the judges for the fireless cooking competition respectively.
