Jammuites take on ‘Hum Fit Toh India Fit’ Challenge at ‘Jammu Run’

JAMMU, June 17: Over 100 Jammuites walked, jogged and ran at the 10 kms ‘Jammu Run’ 2018 in support of the ‘Hum Fit Toh India Fit’ fitness Challenge, here today.
The event was organized by Shifali Jamwal, daughter of Brigadier RS Jamwal.
Jammu Runners Group also played a pivotal role in organising the event.
The Jammu Run 2018 was kicked off at 6 am at Joggers Park, Opposite RBI, Bahu Plaza, by retired General Gowardhan Singh Jamwal. Pupinder Singh was the first to officially complete the 10 kms circuit in 40 minutes to bag gold, while Darshana Devi bagged the winning medal in women category completing the run in 62 minutes.
In men’s section, Mohd Munir won silver, while the bronze was shared by Mandeep Kumar and Bhushan Kumar.
In women’s section, the silver medal went to Zoha Barkat, while Birjees Zaira claimed bronze.
Shifali Jamwal, currently a teacher at the Lakshya Defense Academy said, “I am happy to see a good turnout for Jammu Run 2018. What started off as an idea two weeks back materialized into an event where people were encouraged to adopt a healthy lifestyle. It was wonderful to see children, youngsters, adults and seniors all coming together to take on this fitness challenge. I am so proud of my fellow Jammuites.”
The Hum Fit Toh India Fit fitness challenge was started by Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, an Olympic medallist himself, wayback in May 2018.
Since then, it has become a national movement, most recently endorsed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Hum FitToh India Fit is a trending phenomenon on social media and has taken India by storm to inspire a health conscious lifestyle.
Several celebrities including Virat Kohli and Hrithik Roshan have supported the cause, and now Jammu has also joined the movement.
Sponsor of the event, Lakshya Defense Academy (LDA) is an institution designed to impart specialized training to young aspirants, boys & girls, who wish to join the belt forces. The training is focused on physical fitness, academic excellence & behavioural patterns required during soldier recruitments, officer written tests and SSB interviews respectively.
