Jammu Srinagar Light Rail Projects

Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) and the Light Rail Projects (LRP) for the twin capital cities of Jammu and Srinagar conceived on the pattern of Delhi Metro , Faridabad, Bengaluru, etc at a cost of Rs. 9590 crore is expected to commence operations by or after September 2024. In other words that means riddance to a larger extent from traffic jams and pollution of air besides other comforts to the travelling public. As is already known that the Light Metro Elevated Corridor in Jammu with a distance range of 23 kms will connect Bantalab to Bari Brahmna Railway station and Exhibition Ground to Udheywala and Exhibition Grounds to Satwari, busiest routes. Likewise in Srinagar, Indira Nagar to HMT, Hazuri Bagh to Bemina and Indra Nagar to Pampore, Hazuri Bagh to Airport in Phases 1 and 2 also busiest routes.
So far so good as mass rapid transportation systems are answer to many ever increasing problems due to mass urbanisation and emerging challenges to the environment. Usually, such mega prestigious projects often get inordinately delayed due to host of reasons at the top of which is, the process of land acquisition, selection of MRTS corridors, clearance certificates and a professional foolproof plan and approval. Maximum time is consumed on land acquiring which right from now must be given urgent attention . Both the cities having lot of potential for promoting tourism once the system is made operational could experience spurt in the number of incoming visitors. Let nitty – gritty of project intricacies and details, lack of timely funds support and other acts of red tape not take place at all which could result in considerable delays in rolling out of the mega project under reference.
