Prioritising Jammu-Poonch rail link (DE Nov 30) is quite exciting. The project is significant as several issues like backwardness, poverty, unemployment, tourism and business activities would get speed in their achievement. Both the districts, namely, Rajouri and Poonch, having not been blessed with rail line so far, are still almost undeveloped.
It is not an exaggeration to state that when highly difficult areas in the State have come on the railway graph, keeping this region devoid of such facilities, is not less irksome. Completion and operationalisation of the project soon would add beauty and accelerate economic avenues even in the far flung belts of the districts. Prioritisation is, therefore, felt necessary, if the running generation is allowed to enjoy rail-like facilities in their life.
The State Govts have been responsible for not pressing the demand to link these districts with railline which has consequently resulted into backwardness and poverty. The potentials of tourism, abundantly available in the region, also remained unutilised due to no rail link.
