Jammu growers attending National Mushroom Mela

JAMMU, Sept 9:   A group of 35 mushroom growers hailing from  different districts of Jammu division left today  to participate in one day National Mushroom Mela in Chambaghat, Solan (HP).
The Mela would be held on September 10, the day on which Solan was declared as “Mushroom City of India”.
The mushroom growers tour was flagged off by Director Agriculture Jammu, Ajay Khajuria from, Krishi Bhawan Jammu.
The participatory tour has been sponsored by the Directorate of Agriculture Jammu under Support to Extension Programme for Extension Reforms (ATMA) Scheme.
During the Mela the visiting growers would participate in the Exhibition on Improved Production and Post-harvest Management of Mushrooms and other related aspects.
A Kisan Goshthi will also be held in which farmers, mushroom growers, marketing personnel and extension workers visiting the mela will be able to interact face to face with the scientists and experts and seek information about the problems they face in mushroom growing.
Interacting with the mushroom growers, Director Agriculture advised them to gain maximum knowledge about mushroom cultivation as the Directorate of Mushroom Research Solan was a pioneer Institution of the country in Mushroom Research. He called upon them to get the solutions to the related issues and problems in mushroom cultivation, post harvest management and marketing aspects by discussing with the experts and scientists at the mela.
He further said that they should take keen interest to learn the improved practices in mushroom cultivation so that they can get high returns and improve their socio-economic condition back at home.
