Jammu Club hosts performance by Geeta Chandran

Jammu, Aug 26: Jammu Club in association with SPIC MACAY organized a ‘Bharatanatyam’ performance by Padmashree Geeta Chandran and her troupe last evening in premises.
The program was meant for the children of the members of club members in which children from SOS Home Channi Rama were also invited. This was a great effort by the Jammu Club in fulfilling its social responsibility. The library society of the club had taken the lead in organising this event.
Geeta Chandran left the audience spell bound by her charismatic movements. Geeta Chandran, the leading exponent of Bharatnatyam is celebrated worldwide not only for her composite understanding of the art of Bharatanatyam but also for her Carnatic music, dance activism and dance journalism.
She began her dance recital by engaging the students through the lecture demonstration method. She acquainted them with the basic postures of Bharatanatyam, the significance of the various namaskaras. Performing a variety of pieces ranging from mythological stories to depiction of Lord Shiva’s wrath and the rapturous devotion of Meera Bai, she left the audience spell bound with her graceful movements, symbolic gestures, dexterous foot work, energy and gusto.
Raman Samnotra, Secretary Jammu Club honoured Geeta for her contribution towards the preservation of Indian cultural heritage. Dr. Nira Singh compared the proceedings of the program and moved the formal vote of thanks.
Neelam Bhalla, Trustee Bee Enn Charitable Hospital & Trust and J&K Police were thanked in particular for providing conveyance to the children of SOS Home, Channi Rama. Club extended a deep sense of gratitude to Dr. Sapna K Sangra, SPIC MACAY Coordinator and Dr. Seema Rohmetra, Coordinator Jammu for coordinating the event and making it a grand success.
Other members present on the occasion included Sunita Gupta, Kangan and S.P.Verma of Gandhi Global Family among others.
