Displaced Anganwari workers at verge of starvation

JAMMU, Aug 26: Over 150 Displaced Anganwari workers are at the verge of starvation as the Government has failed to pay them their pay dues for over last one and a half year.
Despite making repeated pleas to the authorities at the helm of affairs several times, the Government has failed to release their salaries till date with the result many of the families are at the verge of starvation as they have no source of income  after the mass migration from Valley over 25 years back.
The delaying tactics and callousness of the Government has generated a lot of resentment among the hapless workers in particular and displaced people in general.
“We have met all the concerned who are at the helm of affairs including the Minister of Social Welfare and Forests Bali Bhagat’’ said one of the workers. She said the Minister assured us that within a month the salaries will be released but three months have since passed and nothing has been done till date.
Meanwhile the BJP MLC Surinder Ambardar has strongly pleaded the cause of these workers. In an appeal to Mr Bali Bhagat he sought his immediate intervention in the matter and urged him to take steps to release the salaries of these poor workers among whom many are unable to pay the tuition fee of their wards.
The president Displaced Employees Forum M K Tickoo has also demanded that the salaries of displaced Anganwari workers be released at an earliest so that these hapless workers are relived of the tension and worry. Mr Tickoo said denial of salaries for one and half years is a grave injustice with them. He sought immediate intervention of the Minister of Social Welfare in the matter.
