SRINAGAR, June 17: A meeting of cross sections of society such as intellectuals, writers, former trade union leaders, doctors, traders, and lawyers was held here today while adhering to the SOPs amid COVID-19.
A statement issued in this regard stated that in the meeting it was felt seriously that Jammu and Kashmir was passing through a tough time, “and there was an onslaught on political, economic, democratic, social rights and the right of freedom of expression.”
The participants of the meeting unanimously resolved to frame a civil society under the name and style, “Jammu and Kashmir Civil Society Forum (JKCSF)” which will work and function as a non-political organization and will not become part of any political election process directly or indirectly at any time.
“However, the organization will have a privilege, legally to share and make its opinion in the socio-economic, political & human issues of the coming times and has rights to react and resist against policy decision of the government which will be against the sentiment, emotions ,aspirations and rights of people of J&K,” the statement said.
In the meeting to kick start the functioning of the forum the provisional body has been framed unanimously with former Trade union leader Abdul Qayoom Wani as the (Chairman), Farooq Ahmad Trali, (General Secretary), Nusrat Ahmad Beigh (Vice Chairman), Mukhtaar Ahmad Tantray (Vice Chairman), Dr. Gh. Nabi Lone(Vice Chairman) Haji Farooq Ahmad Lone (Chief Spokesperson).
