BUDGAM, Apr 5: Emphasizing for the engagement of unemployed educated youth in different kinds of economic activities for creating job opportunities through various schemes being launched to expand the job market for unemployed youth, the Union Minister for Rural Development, Jairam Ramesh today launched National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM) at Khansahib in district Budgam.
Pertinently, NRLM aims for making households self sufficient through the organization of Self Help Groups of women for which Rs. 800 crore have been earmarked by the Government of India covering 90,000 women of 9 lakh families all across the State.
Mr Ramesh while interacting with the youth undergoing skill development and enhancement in different domain including retail hospitality, sales with supportive domains like communication skills and knowledge of computers, asked the youth to give up the inhibitions with regard to place of working and take full advantage of the initiatives being taken by the Government of India exclusively for the educated unemployed youth of Jammu and Kashmir. He also stressed for engagement of Self Help Groups in all kinds of employment generating avenues in agriculture sector as it is the backbone of economy of the State.
Urging for construction of toilets within the premises of every household through Total Sanitation Campaign, the Minister also reiterated to link Umeed and Himayat Programmes to empower the women and youth of the State for better socio-economic status.
The Minister was also informed that 5200 youth were trained through Himayat Centres across the State and 900 of them are working outside the State. As many as 156 youth have been trained by Himayat Centre, Budgam out of which 105 have been adjusted in various sectors thereby generating source of income.
MLA Khansahib, Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen also spoke on the occasion and stressed for development of Human Resource besides training and awareness among females about Self Help Groups to improve their socio-economic status.
