JAMMU, May 20: In a joint meeting of Jagti inmates grave concern was expressed over the step motherly treatment meted out to the displaced community living in Jagti township through the hands of the Jal Shakti Department, as the inmates of the township are continuously facing water scarcity even after crores of rupees from the Relief Organisation are being paid to the organisation for the purpose.
The meeting among others was attended by Sanjay Dhar, Piaray Lal Pandita and Raj Kumar Ticku, socio-political activists. They disclosed that after taking over the water supply scheme from Relief Organisation in 2021 unnecessary hurdles were created by the Jal Shakti Department in smooth water supply to the township. Instead of digging and installation of five bore wells over six months back, the Department makes lame excuses of making these bore wells functional, they added. They said it is surprising that over 25,000 souls of Jagti and no proper attention is being paid to solve the water scarcity issue there by the authorities.
A contractor has been given control of the filtration plant who has failed to regularise water supply to township since 2012 to date and it is also surprising that the Departmental officers are dependent on the contractor who is not taking any positive measures to solve the problem.
They demanded that the Custodian of migrants, Relief & Rehabilitation Commissioner should look into the problem and impress upon the Jal Shakti Department to ensure proper water supply without break to the township in view of scorching Summer heat.
