J-K police solves Doda student’s murder

JAMMU, Feb 21: J&K police has solved the murder case of a B Tech student hailing from district Doda in Punjab with the arrest of an accused from Hoshiarpur district of Punjab and handing him over to local police there.
According to police sources, a student hailing from district Doda namely Mehraj Khalid Mintoo was pursuing B Tech from Riyat Bahra Institute of Punjab. He was found dead in the institute during the intervening night of January 18 and 19.
On getting information, Punjab police has rushed to the spot and after conducting postmortem, handed over the body of the victim to family members for last rites.
Punjab police started inquest proceedings to ascertain the reason behind the death and also sought coordination of J&K police to solve the mystery of the death.
Police team from J&K headed by SP Abdul Rauf Lone was deputed to assist the Punjab police on the instructions of Police Headquarters to clear the facts behind the death of the student.
During the course of investigations, it was found that the victim was killed due to over dose of drug injected to him by Gurminder Singh alias Ranvir alias Gagan son of Gurmeet Singh Tuli of Jagatpura, Hoshiarpur.
After conducing searches at various places, police finally arrested the accused from a hideout after establishing that he was involved in the murder by retrieving the data from internet as he had erased it from his mobile phone.
However, the drug peddler who had supplied the intoxicant to the accused was also arrested. He was booked for supply of drugs while a murder case has been registered against Ranvir at Hoshiarpur.
Punjab police had only initiated inquest proceedings but the J&K police got it converted into murder case.
A case under FIR number 24/2014 has been registered at police station City Hoshiarpur against the accused involved in the murder of the student.
It is pertinent to mention here that, MLA Doda Mujeed Wani and MoS Home Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo had demanded immediate arrest of the accused involved in the murder.
Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Ghulam Nabi Azad had also written a letter to Chief Minister of Punjab Prakash Singh Badal for immediate intervention into the case and arrest of the accused behind the murder of the Doda student.
