SRINAGAR, Aug 3: The Integrated Watershed Management Programme (IWMP), J&K celebrated Amrut Mahotsav in Kupwara in coordination with District Administration.
The programme started with drive in which saplings were planted in the premises of Government Degree College (GDC) Kupwara by Imam Din, District Development Commissioner (DDC), Kupwara; Dr. Bharat Bhushan, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) IWMP J&K; Farooq Ahmad Rather, Principal GDC Kupwara; Nazir Ahmad, Project Manager IWMP; Mehraj, Assistant Commissioner Development and Shabir Ahmad Wani, Assistant Commissioner Panchayats, Kupwara.
Thereafter a debate competition was organised on the topic ‘Role of Mahatma Gandhi in India’s Independence Struggle’ in which about 20 students from different schools participated.
This programme was in the series of celebrations conducted all over the country to mark 75 years of country’s independence.
The three best adjudged students were presented mementos and certificates by CEO IWMP J&K and Principal GDC Kupwara.
All other participating students were awarded certificate of participation.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Bharat Bhushan said that Amrut Mahotsav is an important occasion and on this day we should work with renewed zeal and enthusiasm, so that the dream of social equality and all round development foreseen by our freedom fighters and social thinkers can be achieved.
Later Iman Din, DDC accompanied by Project Manager, IWMP Kupwara inaugurated watershed works of the Agency at Kalaroos, Kupwara where a large of officials and representatives from Panchayats were present.
