NEW DELHI: In his upcoming film Ayushmann Khurrana is sharing screen space with National award-winner Rajkummar Rao but the actor says there is no sense of insecurity.
The 32-year-old star will be seen alongside Rajkummar in “Bareilly Ki Barfi” and he believes that it’s always better to have good supporting cast as they only help make a strong film.
When asked if there was any pressure to be cast alongside the “Aligarh” star, Ayushmann said, “No, it’s always better to have a good support cast. It’s great to work with an actor like Rajkummar Rao.
“Actors like him and Pankaj Tripathi, who is also there, take the film to another level. It’s always great to have brilliant actors so that your reaction is always organic. So, selfishly you should only work with such actors.”
Next year will be crucial for Ayushmann as his two films– “Meri Pyaari Bindu” and “Bareilly Ki Barfi” — will hit the theatres.
The actor says he had an amazing experience while shooting for these different characters.
“I’m really excited because it’s the first time I’m doing back-to-back films. It’s fun. Of course, it’s not easy to play two distinct characters simultaneously. It was a challenge for me but it was amazing.”
“Bareilly Ki Barfi” is a rom-com rooted in Uttar Pradesh, which revolves around three young characters, played by Ayushmann, Rajkummar and Kriti Sanon.
Ayushmann believes that all three parts are unique.
“Kriti was quite surprising in the film. This is the first time she’s playing an earthy character. We’ve seen her in very urban looks in her previous films. It’s very different from what she has done in past.
“I’m playing a publisher based in Bareilly, which is unlike ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’ and ‘Meri Pyaari Bindu’. I can’t really move on from that. I’m in madly love with the character.”
The actor says “Bareilly Ki Barfi” will actually make people fall in love with Indian sweets.
“You will see a lot of food in the film especially sweets from barfi to jalebi. Obviously, the film doesn’t revolve around sweets but in every shot you’ll find them as Kriti is playing a Halwai’s daughter in the movie. Indian sweets are infringing part of every festival in our country. So, they helped keep a distinct flavour to the film.”
“Bareilly Ki Barfi” is Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari’s second directorial venture after her critically-acclaimed debut “Nil Battey Sannata” and Ayushmann is all praise for her.
“Ashwiny is a brilliant director. I’ve watched her ‘Nil Battey Sannata’ and I absolutely loved it. The message of the film is amazing. It was heartfelt. It’s a complete honour to work with her and understand this menu.”
“Bareilly Ki Barfi” will hit the theatres on July 21, while “Meri Pyaari Bindu”, also stars Parineeti Chopra, is scheduled for May 12 release next year. (AGENCIES)
